Service Description

For students whe have completed Manga 101 or have practiced Manga for a while and want to go further! Hone your character creation skills, learn panels, background art, and craft your own universe of original characters. What is manga? Manga is a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, typically aimed at a wide range of readers, from children to adults. It's characterized by its unique art style, often featuring exaggerated facial expressions, dynamic action sequences, and diverse storytelling genres encompassing adventure, romance, fantasy, and more. All equipment is provided, but if you have a manga-ready iPad, you can bring it with you for our digital-focused lessons. A manga-ready iPad has the Procreate app installed and a working Apple Pencil. We have a class set to use if you don't have your own iPad. We recommend this class for ages 10 to 16. Please email us if you have a student interested outside this age bracket who would like to participate. No base skill level required, this class is for absolute beginners! Your teacher: Hannah O’Dwyer graduated from JMC Academy in 2015 with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (3D Animation). Since then she has collaborated with a number of clients, including Sock Puppet Productions in Melbourne, to produce anime/manga-style art and original character designs. Hannah has lived in Japan for 7 years, teaching English and soaking up the rich culture of the country and its language. She was involved in the anime/manga art scene in Tokyo and participated in art events such as Design Festa in 2022. Hannah is passionate about sharing anime/manga art and fostering creativity in others. Hannah’s favourite manga character is Levi from Attack on Titan and her favourite Japanese food is sushi.

We've done a lot of stop motion workshops in 2024, we couldn't possibly cover them all individually! We start off learning about the history of stop motion and some famous stop motion films and television. Then we write a brief story we'll attempt to film, before making all of our sets, characters, and props! Using iPads and our Animation Stations, we take individual frames that when put together make our character move throughout the set! We have lots of examples on our YouTube channel, go check it out!
